Ozzy Osbourne background
Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham 1948, Ozzy has been active in the music scene since the 1960s and now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and also received a Global Icon Award at the 2014 MTV Awards. The band Black Sabbath was formed in 1967 and focused on dark imagery in their lyrics and heavy metal riffs. The group achieved mainstream success thanks to tracks like "Paranoid" and their albums Black Sabbath, Masters of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath earned them legions of fans. In 1978, Osbourne left the band to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Ronnie James Dio.
Ozzy signed a record deal with Don Arden and soon fell in love with Don's daughter, Sharon, who he would go on to marry. More success followed with albums like Diary of a Madman and songs "Over the Mountain" and "Flying High Again". In the 1990s, Ozzy decided to venture into festival production and created the hugely successful Ozzfest, which was curated by Ozzy and his son. A celebration of all things metal, the festival has hosted bands like Tool, Slipknot, System of a Down, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Slayer, Rob Zombie and, of course, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath.
