A history of the Malaysian Grand Prix
The Malaysian MotoGP is the penultimate race in the MotoGP calendar, with results at the famous Sepang International Circuit racetrack proving vital to the eventual winners of the MotoGP championship. The Malaysian MotoGP is normally a sellout, with crowds increasing year-after-year as the sport's popularity continues to grow in Malaysia and around South-East Asia.
Malaysia hosted its first MotoGP back in 1991 at the Shah Alam Circuit. The Sepang International circuit, designed by famed racetrack architect Hermann Tilke, opened in 1999 and ever since has been a constant fixture on the MotoGP calendar, as well as Formula One. This is undoubtedly one of Valentino Rossi's favourite places to race. The veteran Italian rider has won at this circuit a record six times, however, his last win came in 2010.
