Formerly known as the Baltimore Colts
The team formerly known as the Baltimore Colts was founded in 1953 and won its first of three National Football League Championships six years later. In 1969 they played the New York Jets in their debut Super Bowl appearance and 12 months on they joined fellow NFL teams the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns in the newly-created AFC East. The franchise won their first Super Bowl in 1971 when they defeated the Dallas Cowboys before relocating to the city of Indianapolis in 1984 and changing their name to the Indianapolis Colts. They have since reached the playoffs on no fewer than 16 occasions and in 2007 won another Super Bowl after beating the Chicago Bears. Since 2002, the franchise has been an ever-present of the AFC South alongside the Tennessee Titans, the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, winning nine championships in its first two decades. The electric Lucas Oil Stadium
Following their 1984 relocation, the Indianapolis Colts took residence at the RCA Dome before moving to the Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008. Several Ring of Honor recipients have called the 67,000-capacity multi-purpose venue home over the years, including defensive end Dwight Freeney, quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receiver Reggie Wayne, center Jeff Saturday and general manager Bill Polian. The anthropomorphic colourful horse known as Blue, the cheerleading squad and the Colts’ army of vocal fans always provide the Lucas Oil Stadium with an incredible atmosphere. It becomes particularly electric when rivals such as the New England Patriots, the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins come to town. Each year, the venue also hosts the NFL Scouting Combine, the week-long showcase for prospective NFL stars, while One Direction, Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney are just a few of the musical superstars who have performed concerts there.
