From British folk outfits to Hong Kong films
Born in Hong Kong in 1947, George Lam first began performing while studying in the UK in the mid-1960s, forming a folk outfit named The Midnighters. After a brief stint in California he returned to his homeland to pursue his music career, fronting the band Jade and launching a solo career in 1976 with debut album "Lam". In the 1980s, Lam reached the top of the RTHK Chinese Pop Chart an astonishing 23 times, a record only surpassed by fellow Cantopop veteran Alan Tam. By this point Lam had also established himself as an actor, appearing in films such as "Boat People" alongside fellow singer-actor Andy Lau, "It Takes Two" with Frances Yip and the Jackie Chan-starring "Twinkle, Twinkle, Lucky Stars". Lam remained a prolific recording artist throughout the 90s and, after bouncing back from a career-threatening ear injury in 2003, continues to wow audiences with his signature wide-ranging tenor. An authentic and creative live experience
Few other Hong Kong artists adopt a more committed DIY approach than George Lam. The Cantopop veteran not only writes and produces his own songs, but he also designs his cover art and helps to stage his own shows. As a result, the George Lam live experience is a truly authentic one which bears all the hallmarks of the Hong Kong-born singer’s creative prowess. Fans should expect to hear everything from country, funk and bossa nova to rock and roll, jazz and hip hop from a man who’s prided himself on his eclecticism throughout his enduring, decade-spanning career. Alongside an array of self-penned hits that have become Cantopop standards, including "Three Wishes", "Boring Love" and "Until We Meet Again", Lam also gives several of his favourite songs from across the world his own unique treatment, while he also regularly invites his wife, Sally Yeh, very much a singer in her own right, to join him on stage. Whether you’re a fan of his romantic ballads or more rhythmic, genre-hopping tunes, be sure to check out the various George Lam tickets now available on StubHub.
