Arctic Monkeys background
Arctic Monkeys formed in Sheffield in 2002 and the band members are Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O'Malley. Former band member Andy Nicholson left the band in 2006 with Nick O'Malley taking his place. The band began performing shows around Sheffield and their fan base began to grow as demos were recorded and released on the internet. When they signed with small label Domino Records in 2005 many people questioned their decision. However, those fears were misguided as Arctic Monkeys' first two singles "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down" both topped the UK charts. In fact, the band's first album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, became the fastest-selling debut album in British history. It ousted Oasis' Definitely Maybe to this accolade but was then beaten by Leona Lewis' Spirit the next year. Since their debut in 2006, Arctic Monkeys have had two hiatus' from touring, firstly in 2007 and, more recently, since 2014. Singer Alex Turner has been working on his side project The Last Shadow Puppets, yet fans are desperate for a new Arctic Monkeys tour. With 2018 looking like the year we will finally hear new Arctic Monkeys songs, make sure you don't miss out on the chance to catch the band live, buy your Arctic Monkeys tickets today.
